The Importance of Cleaning Car Exhaust System

The Car Exhaust System is an essential part of the entire vehicle yet gets the least attention. It is important to maintain the exhaust system to keep your vehicle running smoothly with optimal fuel consumption. You must read this article to know about the importance of cleaning car exhaust system.

1. Making exhaust system clean of harmful fumes:

The fumes released via the exhaust system include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. Some of these fumes fuse with the exhaust and turn it dark black. Over a period, the accumulation of carbon fumes not only turns the exhaust completely black but also interferes with the smooth performance of the car.

However, you would need some essential tools and equipment including gloves for protection, soap and water, degreaser, metal polish, grade steel wool, a microfiber cloth, and hard-bristled brush for cleaning the inside of the exhaust.

2. Improving fuel economy:

A good aftermarket performance exhaust can improve throttle response meaning how fast, and smoothly, the car reacts to the pressure applied to the gas pedal and give a boost in horsepower. These systems can even improve fuel economy. Car performance exhaust systems are able to provide this power boost because they're less restrictive than stock exhausts. If the engine can push out more air (which also means it can take in more air) that helps the engine make more power. But contrary to what you might think, a totally free-flowing system will be counterproductive. Aftermarket exhausts are engineered to provide just the right amount of back pressure so that the engine doesn't end up running at sub-peak output. That's why it's important to clean it.

3. Increasing car performance:

Depending on the type of car you have, and the exhaust system or muffler you clean, you can expect to increase your car’s performance by about 3 per cent. You can use that 3 per cent as the equivalent amount of extra speed, or reduced fuel consumption if you continue to drive at the same speed.

Although 3 per cent may not sound like much, it adds up over time and is a significant cost saving for a car driven every day. Smaller cars tend to benefit the most from the addition of a performance exhaust system. A typical four-cylinder engine must work much harder than a larger car or truck to push the exhaust through the standard restrictive exhaust.

4. Corrosion or rust free pipe:

The exhaust pipe should be protected against corrosion or rust. The system may rust due to various reasons though moisture is the biggest contributor that causes corrosion. In fact, the combustion in itself is a process that produces moisture, which when heated, gets converted into vapors and gets released through the exhaust pipe. The design of this exhaust system should be as such that the harmful gases are expelled safely away from the passengers.

Additionally, the exhaust system must not touch any part of the vehicle that can be easily damaged due to heat, and the exhaust system is hot enough to damage other parts.
